News

On Thursday the 11th of March 2021 an online consortium meeting was held. The partners discussed the ongoing implementation of Output 3 (Upskilling toolkits) and Output 4 (Gamified platform).

The consortium concluded that both outputs are on track to be delivered without delay, and resolved to agree on a date for the internal pilot testing of the tools that are being developed in the framework of the outputs.

Outputs

The partners are currently working on the implementation of the Upskilling toolkits (O3) and the Gamified platform (O4).

Specifically, ESN and Inqubators are finalising the Training toolkit for start-ups/scale-ups (O3/A1) while BIA and KISMC are finalising the Training toolkit for mid-sized and large companies (O3/A2). These toolkits aim at supporting the training of the companies' staff in innovation in Industry 4.0 activities and at  developing their knowledge and competences in relation to collaboration and open innovation. Both toolkits will be tested during an internal pilot testing session to be held online on the 22nd and 23rd of April.

As concerns O4, KISMC and  BIA are working on the Development of collaboration tools (O4/A1) while Deusto is focusing on the Development of collaboration games (O4/A2). The gamified platform will be populated with digital tools that support innovation and Industry 4.0 collaboration for skills development and access to technology.

Both O3 and O4 will be showcased in a dedicated section of the website that is currently under construction.

Connect Day

BIA is co-organising together with partners from the Enterprise Europe Network the Connect Days 2021.
Connect day
Connect Day is not a typical “buyer meets seller” event. It's all about innovation. On the one hand, it focuses on corporates seeking for innovative startup products and services (innovation inflow). On the other hand, the event supports selected startups to get in touch with investors focussing on early-stage investment (pre-seed and seed stage).

Connect Day supports Corporates/SMEs aiming for innovation and collaboration with startups as well as investors seeking startup investment opportunities.

HUBiquitous

ESN is within the consortium of the HUBiquitous project, an Innovation Action aiming at creating a joint Africa-Europe Startup & Innovation Ecosystem for long-term collaborations and partnerships. The project has the ambition to increase the technology level and capacity building of 30 local DIHs/TechHubs in 5 African countries. The project proposes highly innovative concepts called Innovation Enablers (i.e. Solution Lab, Application Business Box and MeetHub online platform). The purpose of these enablers is to provide technical (e.g. IoT, AI and BigData disruptive technologies) as well as entrepreneurial development skills to DIHs and startups/entrepreneurs.

Open Innovation Results: Going Beyond the Hype and Getting Down to Business

Due to the success of the last book of Henry Chesbrough, a team of the University of Deusto (two members of them directly involved with Upsikilling Lab 4.0 project) has translated his last book : “Open Innovation Results: Going Beyond the Hype and Getting Down to Business” into Spanish.

The author revises the success and reasons of failure of Open Innovation projects. Especially interesting for Upskilling Lab 4.0 project is the chapter dedicated to  discuss how companies can work with startups. By the way, his summary of the “Lean Startup” paradigm is exceptional.

Virtual Event of Internet of Things Security Nuggets

KISMC is a co-organizer of the final virtual event of the project Internet of Things Security Nuggets – IoTNuggets. The project aims at developing a new methodology and framework with a model of digital competence for the Security of the Internet of Things (IoT) ecosystem including security and privacy to face the challenges that cyber security put in place.

The learning nuggets provide an easy and interactive way of conveying knowledge and developing skills in a short duration of time. The event will present the main results, objectives, conclusions and insights of the two-year work of six partners in total from 4 countries: Bulgaria, Greece, Spain, and Italy.

No one doubts that the Internet of Things (IoT) represents a massive opportunity for businesses and consumers. Most organizations are only just starting to focus on what they can achieve with IoT solutions. On the other hand, security is what really needs to be designed from the very beginning of developing IoT services and products.  The growing threat of cyberattacks has made governments and companies more aware of the need to defend the computerized control systems of utilities and other critical infrastructure.

Nuggets are capsules of information to be used in the right moment, engaging and interactive, multimedia enabled. It is a new trend in training allowing avoidance of overload for trainees. Nuggets distil information and target specific information to utilize the learners' time efficiently so that specialists can build and upgrade their skills and knowledge in small chunks of content.

The project is targeting VET providers and trainers in the ICT field, software engineers and programmers who want and need to update their competences, skills, and knowledge in cyber security of the ecosystem of IoT. And, ICT entrepreneurs who have, want, and/or would like to start a business in the IoT field.

Tapp.online at Inqubator Leeuwarden

Tapp.online start-up is a great addition to the Inqubator Leeuwarden! Tapp Online has developed a technology that prints sensors on letterhead. On behalf of the selling party, the sensor monitors the status of the cargo during transport, until the moment of delivery. Thus, the sensor in the paper replaces the current plastic boxes with a similar function.

The smart paper with the sensor, which is a true Internet of Things solution, remains recyclable and is therefore good for the environment! Niels Postma, the founder of Tapp.online, recently had the opportunity to talk about this sensor during a T-mobile webinar on IoT solutions. Click here to watch the webinar back in Dutch (from about 40:30 - 55:00 you can see Niels!).

A great example of sustainability and new technologies going hand in hand!
